The journal Nano-Micro Letters is proud to have sponsored the three “Best Poster Awards” at the Nano-Micro Conference 2017 in Shanghai, China on June 19 - 23 2017.
The award winners are:
Yi Zhao, Beihang University, China "Enhanced electrochemical energy storage of N-doped graphene by adsorbing molecules of hydrolysized polyimide";
Lu Sun, Beihang University, China "Gram-scale production of nanoporous graphene by Mg-thermoreduction of CS2 for electrochemical energy storage";
Min Hong, Peking University, China, "Quasi-Freestanding Monolayer Striped WS2 with an Invariable Band Gap on Au(001)".
The conference chair, Prof. Yafei Zhang presented the awards to the winners.

Every year the award will be granted to first authors who have published their innovative works in Open Science with Videos.

The Advisory Committee of NRS and the Editorial Board of Open Science with Videos (OSV) will vote for the winners during the first week of June. Two Award Winners and Voting Results will be announced on NRS official website on the Monday of the next week of June.

Open Science with Videos (OSV) publishes significant, innovative original research with videos that advances the frontiers of science and cutting edge technologies.

Monitoring technology takes just a finger prick to carry out a blood test count that helps chemotherapy patients to manage their treatment.

A London-based healthtech start-up has developed a hand-held blood testing kit that can be used at home by chemotherapy patients to tailor treatment to their specific needs.

Entia’s Affinity™ monitor can reduce cancellations for chemotherapy appointments and limit hospital visits just for blood count checks. And that means there are more chemotherapy slots for other people awaiting urgent treatment.

Entia is receiving a total of £1.14 million from Innovate UK, much of it through the Biomedical Catalyst, to work with The Royal Marsden Hospital on developing the Affinity monitor.

The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) has today announced the launch of the Data Science Challenge. The challenge is designed to bring the brightest minds in data science together to solve real-world problems. The first challenges – detecting and classifying vehicles from aerial imagery and the classification of documents by themes– are now open to entrants, with each challenge boasting a total prize fund of £40,000.

Sir Mark Walport

Science minister Jo Johnson has announced that Prof Sir Mark Walport will be Chief Executive Designate of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI).

In this role Sir Mark will lead the establishment of UKRI and ensure it plays a central role at the heart of the Industrial Strategy.

Subject to the passage of the Higher Education and Research Bill through parliament, UKRI will be established as a single, strategic body that will bring together the 7 Research Councils, Innovate UK and the research and knowledge exchange functions of the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE).
